the royal barriere in deauville overlooks the sea and is set against the green wooded landscapes of normandy. built in 1913 at the height of la belle Époque, when the city was a magnet for the wealthy and stylish of europe, the impressive façade of the royal barrière still presides over this elegant town. beach lovers and people watchers flock to the three kilometers of superb sandy beach and boardwalk "les planches" that are opposite the hotel. the hotel is one hour from the historic world war ii landing beaches and mont saint-michel and 15 kilometers from honfleur, where 19th century painters were inspired by the light along the estuary.
